firewall problem with FTP in Dreamweaver

My webmaster is having trouble getting FTP to connect through Dreamweaver.  Corporate firewall directs all FTP traffic through a proxy server (WebMarshal).  Error messages indicate proxy is the problem.  FTP thru Dreamweaver works when outside the corporate network.  Would love to resolve without making firewall exceptions.

FBCISADMIN,

If the proxy is the issue, you'll have to deal with the proxy.  DW has a limited ability to interface with a proxy server and it is highly dependent on version.

Webmaster says he can't execute the proxy settings as described in the link - says the Dreamweaver session is inheriting the proxy settings from Internet Explorer (which has our proxy settings in it).  Can you tell me how to access the proxy settings described in the link?
The links does describe how to access the settings from within DW.  I have no idea why DW would be inheriting anything from Internet Explorer but this is sounding like a secure, but oddball, method of proxy.  Not sure I have ever run across it before.
will do a visual inspection of the Dreamweaver menu, with my own eyes (haven't done that yet).  I'll let you know what turns up, tomorrow.
Do you know what version of DW this is?
No.  But, I'll get that info, when I look at the menu system.
Using CS5; version 11.0; build 4964.

This morning, I did find the Preferences settings and confirmed that they were proper (so we are NOT inheriting settings from IE - don't know where that idea came from).  Error message returned was:

An FTP error occurred - cannot make conection to host.
No Repose from the server.  This may be due to one of more of the following reasons:

 - Accessing the server required proxy settings that aren't properly set.  Please verify that the proxy settings in the Site category of the Preferences dialog gox are properly set, and that the Use Proxy option in the Site definition dialog box is selected.
 - The server may be accepting only passive mode or only active Mode.  Toggling the "Use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you establish a connection.
 - If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please select "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
 - Your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data.  Please disable it to see if it makes a difference.
 - it is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP port (21).  If you need to specify a non-standard port, enter the port number after the hose name separated by a colon":".

In response to this error, we have:
1.  confirmed the Preferences settings.
2.  tested passive mode and didn't work.
3.  DOn't know what IPv6 is.
4.  checked the local (client) firewall - not turned on.
5.  There is an indication to use port 21, but don't know where to type this in.  When typed into the Preferences, the :21 disappears after selecting to save.

We did change the Preferences.  I put in the proxy server internal IP address, followed by 8085.

I'm not totally confident in my web masters' adherence to methodology, so here are a couple of other things I could test, personally.

1.  asked him to put 21 as the port in the site preferences.  He said he did and still got an error message.
2.  I did not watch him change to passive mode.  He said he tested it, but I didn't see it with my own two eyes.

Am I going to need to bypass the proxy for this one??
to JASON1178.  based on the short answers, bypass the proxy is next step??
Sorry, I've been out of town and lost track of this. Give me an hour to clear out work email and let me respond.
No problem.  preciate your help.
Short of actually getting hands-on with the user's machine to verify "adherence to methodology" (I am so stealing that sentence for my own use) I think you might have to bypass the proxy.  However, if you can remote in or get to that desk, I'm relatively sure it is something that you can configure but it sounds like you need to be the one who does it.
preciate your experience, because I have none with DreamWeaver.  Give me a couple of days to sync the calendar with the user and clarify the setup through my own eyes.  Will respond by end of week.
I'll be here.  Again, sorry for the delay.
Needs another few days to meet with web master and double-check settings.  Then we will conclude.....bobby.
Ok.

I'm traveling all of next week but will be able to get email notifs from EE.  Not guaranteeing a response time though :)
