Migration of Sharepoint Site and subsites

I recently migrated WSS 3.0 on  //SERVER1 top level site to

//SERVER2/Sites/Engineering.

I am able to connect to //SERVER2/Site/Engineering/Subsite

but not able to connect to //SERVER2/ .

All pages in site //SERVER2 are not accessible with HTTP: error 404.


It something wrong with the whole site or the master page or? Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure whether the root site (server2) was created with any template. Since you migrated to //SERVER2/Sites/Engineering you will be able to access it fine.  

To resolve it try creating the site with template....

I cant access //SERVER2/Sites/Engineering. It says that the page cannot be found. I can only access the subsites. I cannot open the homepage on  //SERVER2/Sites/Engineering in sharepoint designer even though it shows that its there. Its says it does not exist for some reason. I am guessing its the template also, but I dont know how to restore the old template? Do you know how I can transfer the old template on SERVER1 to SERVER2?
