SuPHP - general question

my tech support person is suggesting we install SuPHP  on our LAMP cPanel server (PHP v5.2)

1. does this slow down general PHP execution much
2. where is a list of benefits/features that it would provide (i cannot find a list on the web)
3. one citation i found mentions that PHP users would need a php.ini in each script directory - so that would likely mean it breaks most of our clients' scripts?

thanks

1. Not really.  It depends on site traffic, of course but basically you are running PHP under a user's permissions instead of a higher level user.

2. The reason you can't find it is that suPHP is not really an active project anymore.  I don't think it's been updated since the mid-2000's

3. No.  Just base the .ini of the current one for each user and the scripts should continue to work.

Why does the tech person want to install it?

Hi Jason, good answers, thanks.
The tech support guy thinks that he can tell more of what is causing server loading by installing suPHP
