Getting decline notice before receipt is sent

We are moving our store from OsCommerce to ZenCart and have it 99% done. We have an authorize.net merchant account and everything is inputted for Authorize.net (SIM) method of payment. The ONLY glitch we are having is if someone goes through the checkout process, they are emailed a receipt and so is the admin - this is all good. But if the card is declined, we dont' find out til the next day in Authorize.net How can we stop the transaction and notify the client right away if their card is declined so no receipt or notice of order goes out unless the card is approved?
