Restore files to different server/different hardware:  local group right´s must be saved.

hello,

I have a W2k3R2 server with mor than 1 TB data. I have to bring this to a new server. My problem is, that there are a lot of local (computer)-groups with access rights to different files an d directories. I have to rebuid this security on the new server. When I install a new machine, create local group on this server with same name like on the old one, it will not work, because the Sid of the groups is different. Is there a way to "transport" the groups and security to the new machine?

Please investigate swing migration @ www.sbsmigration.com.  They have a well thought out plan to migrate anything to anything (almost) that includes preserving the user shares and permissions.  Other wise you will be forced to document all of that and apply it manually to the new server.
