SQL 2008 upgrade to 2008 R2

Forgive me experts for asking such a simple question on here, but I don't feel like being on hold with Microsoft for 60 minutes and my Google searching hasn't turned up a definitive answer.

We currently have two servers installed with 1PROC licenses of SQL 2008, both are running SSRS only.  We'd like to take advantage of some new features available in SQL 2008 R2

Do we need to purchase new licenses for these machines?  I can't seem to tell whether 2008 R2 is a new release or if it's available as an upgrade to existing SQL 2008 users?

Can someone help me out?

Have a look at this reference guide :

If you have sql server 2008 cals they can be used with 2008 r2
The server license is a bit more complex below is a quote from the reference guide linked above :

If your existing SQL Server License is covered by Software Assurance (SA), you are automatically
licensed to upgrade to the corresponding SQL Server 2008 R2 edition.
If your existing SQL Server License is not covered by SA, you must purchase a new full license for the
SQL Server 2008 R2 edition you want.
