ProCurve management software

I have three ProCurve 2800 series managed switches. I want some way to be notified when a switch event happens (namely, errors on ports). Do I need to get the PCM software from HP for this, or are there other alternatives? I can see the events on the web interface of the switches, but it doesn't proactively send me notifications, and I have to look at each switch by itself.

You can use any software that receives SNMP traps.

PCM's free version will get you what you need and is already geared towards the right products...

You have to configure 1) the SNMP traps from the switch to your server 2) the alerts on PCM

1)

command for enabling trap sending on the switch:

snmp-server host <ip-addr> <community-name> [none | all | non-info| critical | debug]

2) On PCM you want to use policy manager. (please note that you should add the switch to PCM first)

First, configure an email server. Tools -> Preferences -> SMTP profiles

To configure the actual alert, there is a Launch Policy Manager button on the toolbar.

From there you can configure what, when, where and how for the alerts. Email is under actions.

It is pretty straight forward but here is the manual link in case you have any doubts:
