Streaming payed video content + avoiding downloading of streaming videos

Hello Experts,

We are building an elearning application where in there is lot of unique video content which has to be monetized.
We dont want to upload the video content to youtube for free streaming, rather we are looking at allowing ONLY payed users to have access to the streaming videos. Additionally we want the streaming videos to be non-downloadable.

All this is technically possible? If yes .. kindly guide us on the execution part.

Generally enterprise grade hosting solutions will not limit videos too much, however they may be picky on the content types of videos.

Naming certain hosting companies may be against this site's TOS so if you would email me at my address I can tell you a few good ones my email address is remixedcat at live dot com

If you do get a cloud or dedicated you have way more control then a shared hosting plan. Cloud is highly recommended.

If you figure out the hosting solution you want then we can talk about software to be used since some hosts forbid certain software from being used on thier servers. This is a sensitive topic to most hosting companies, as they do not want to be liable for any DMCA violations.

email me at the address for any information that would be too sensitive and to discuss further plans, to avoid your users knowing how to circumvent your protections. Those are best left to private. I want your property to be protected.

that will all depend on the hosting company you are on like the platforms they use and once we know more about that we can assist you further.

generally you can streaming software to protect the stream from downloading. Certain CNN videos as well as Oxygen's video streams prevent downloading and have rights management built into the stream itself. You would need to get custom consulting for some applications.

If you find a solution you would need to make sure your hosting provider supports the platform. That's why we will need a little more information on your hosting platform, so we can point you towards a solution that would work. Please consult your hosting company about this and they may even recommend or even install the solution for you.

Thx for responding!

Our development platform is LAMP. We are considering hostv.com to host our streaming application. We would either opt for VPS or dedicated hosting, streaming here is done using RED5 & ffmpeg.

My concern is streaming videos should not be downloadable and we are looking at proper rights management in place.

We are open to other options of hosting (which support LAMP dev platform).

Any cloud based hosting which can support our requirement ?

We are not familiar with intricacies of RED5 implementation, for this reason we are looking at something easy to deploy and control the streaming(monetizing).

Also please update us with ballpark costs for hosting/streaming 30 videos of 5 min duration (assuming 20 simultaneous streamings and 300 streamings of each video per week).

Any pointers in this direction are greatly appreciated.
