Crystal report generated in my app.

I have a service application (written in Delphi) that runs a crystal report by invoking the runtime engine passing the parameters, output options etc.  Its written in .Net.

This service sits there running reports that are waiting in a queue.  The output is saved as a PDF which is picked up and moved to a database.   It has been running for months now without any problems!

However some reports take a while to run (30 minutes) and there are other reports that run in seconds.  I would like to set up a second service that runs the quicker reports.

Will this cause a problem with the runtime engine if both services are running at the same time? Can more than one report be run simultaneously on the same machine ?

I don't think it will cause issues so long as you manage the queue so both can't choose the same report.

Can you run 2?
It depends on the licenses you have and the version of Crystal you have.
Which version and edition of Crysta do you have?

i was thinking of using the developer edition of 2008.  WHy would there be a problem running the same report?

If you have 2 services running and they each try to run from the same queue and choose the same queue element that could cause issues with the queue management.  If you setup separate queues and could put the faster reports into one queue and the slower ones into the other queue then there is no issue.

ok that i guess is a point, but i am sure i can handle that.  What i need to know is whether i can run reports simultaneously on the same machine.  Are there issues with the .Net Crystal Reports runtime engine? Is it thread safe?

That I don't know.
Since you can have several users running web based reports I assume it is.
