How to improve Samsung SyncMaster 2494LW with washed-out color

Hello Experts -

I have a new (in March, 2011) Samsung 2494LW display. It's big. Diagonally it must measure 23 inches. So, the resolution is not going to be as good as on my Sony laptop with a 13-inch flat screen.

But, the color using thelarge Samsung are washed out. They are not particularly vibrant. I have the same theme on my laptop as on the Samsung and the colors are spectacular.

Is there anything I can do to liven it up? Also, should I play with the monitor's controls, tne NVadia controls in the Control Panel, or load software for my Sparkle VGA card (maybe the last option is the same as the Control Panel as the Sparkle software may have been installed when the local computer shop loaded a new copy of Windows 7 on my computer?

Any thoughts?

What have you set the resolution of your computer to?  It should be 1920 x 1080.  If this doesn't sharpen it up a bit, try playing with the picture settings in the menu.  One of the is MagicBright, MagicBright is pre-configured display modes designed to suit what the monitor will be used for.
From the tech notes:

A full suite of Magic Picture options are at your fingertips. MagicTune offers You can choose from MagicBright's pre-set viewing modes like Text, Internet, Sports and Movies. Use MagicColor to enhance color overall or by skin tone

A thing to take into consideration is that what you're describing is the Dynamic Contrast Ratio. If you look at the Dynamic Contrast Ratio for your display and compare that to your laptop, i'd imagine that the ratio is greater for your little 13" laptop. The ratio (the larger the better) will let you know how white, white will look and how black, black will look. This will cause your colors on your monitor to be more vibrant or appear to be better shaded, which will increase the depth to an image.
