How to create a drupal test site from a live site.

Hi,

i currently run a drupal website with multiple modules installed on web hosting.  I want to create a local test site where i am able to test updates before placing them into the production website.

Is there any way where i am able to extract my live web site from the webhost and then place it onto a local machine to allow testing?

What sort of programs must I install on my local machine?

Thank you.

By the very nature of the question I assume you are not a linux - therefore, this is a windows or osx solution (If you are using linux you should use the distro's native packages).

You can install a xampp distribution:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

And install exactly the same version of drupal in xampp. Then just dump a database from the live site and import it into local mysql through mysqladmin, which is included in xampp.

Best regards.

Thanks.  Following your comment I did some further research and found a guide.
