excel save as csv missing rows columns

I starting working in a brand new excel sheet

I saved the sheet as a csv > closed > re-opened

after re-openining in excel noticed some of the columns and rows were missing?

when you open the file in excel and hit ctrl + end takes you to row 3171 but there is only 22 rows with data values

when opening in notepad noticed there are heaps or rows like this:
anyway to retrieve the missing rows?

Excel might think there are non-empty cells, which it tries to export.  This EE article describes a procedure to tighten up the used range:

can you post the csv file here please?

In excel, "" is deemed as empty space therefore you are seeing the blank rows. one way to view all the rows from CSV in excel is to

1. open the csv file in notepad,
2. do a replace "" with "--" or any other symbol you feel is appropriate. don't use comma's here :)
3. save the csv file.
4. re-open in excel.


see if that helps, or else you can always post the csv file here too,

This was a user error I have advised the user to save as xls if the sheet contains any formatting. The "" that appear are missing cells and cannot be recovered. Cannot paste the csv because it contains work sensitive data.
