Need Help With E-Mail Desktop/Phone Organization (Mac Mail)

I access e-mails via Mac Mail as well as my iPhone. It feels like I need to organize them twice...is there a way to sort mail into folders from my iPhone and have them automatically appear in the correct folders on my desktop...and vice-versa? I'm using an address associated with my domain at the moment but am open to switching the gmail if that would make things easier.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Do you know of your email provider supports IMAP. if so, that is the way to go, as it will support folders and keeping your mail sync'd up. If your provider does not provide IMAP support, gmail does and is free. I am using gmail currently and have this functionality.

First step is to enable IMAP in gmail:

For Mac Mail, the following link will walk you though setting up imap:

For iPhone, it is better to setup gmail as exchange mail, and you will actually get push email like blackberry on your iPhone:
