Richtx32 Strange behaviour

I have a rich textbox that I type into
Richtx32.ocx ver 6.1.98.16 - VB6 SP6
I only want the ASCII text string in the result so I set a string to the "text" property
MyString = RichTextBox1.Text
The problem is that MyString sometimes returns as an RTF formatted string.
The other problem is that is never happens locally - only to clients who are hundreds of miles away.
Any suggestions would be welcome as I have no idea where to start!

We have been using RTF boxes extensively for 10 years or more at up to 100 sites without ever seeing a problem like that.. Our Apps are continually extracting and manipulating  the .Text string.
Is it happening at more than one site? Maybe a virus?
Try sending them a fresh install cab with instructions to say yes to "replace this ocx?"

Well it is happening and I have fixed it by filtering the RTF string!
Saying that you do not have the problem is no help when I do have it.
Tried the reinstall - no difference.

I was trying to be helpful. The first question you need answered with weird microsoft bugs is "Is anyone else having this problem?" It is an important piece of diagnostics  to hear from someone who has used the object in question for many years and has not had that problem. That information is not useless!

No solution to the problem - saying it does not happen for them does not solve the problem
