App and Workflow Documentation

What is the correct name for documentation/diagrams that show an applications “infrastructure”? I.e. application server/test server/data/database server/SAN (archived data). Basically all the elements that interact to form the platform on which the application and processes, i.e. backup process, test process, data archive process runs? Is there a template document?

Likewise, what typically will be documented in terms of a backup procedure/workflow for an application and its platform/infrastructure? Typically where the data goes, everywhere it resides, onto what devices, backup software used, then onto what SAN/NAS, then onto what tape etc. What elements are/should be included in the applications infrastructure backup, and what is the name of a document that will demonstrate the flow of the data from when it is backed up to where it ends up? Is there a template document?

Any backup software is self-documenting by design.
Unless you have legal requirements to do better do not exceed a 2 pages in your policy.
