Hi ,

The DNS server service on our DC has stuck on Stopping even after restarting server. Can anyone sugget what the problem might be. I have tried to kill the service using "taskkill" to no avail, also the Background intelligence service won't start...

make sure antivirus product is not disturbing the services, go to safe mode, disable AV services and login back in normal mode,  i had the similar issues when installed a never version of AV and after restart many services including DNS stopped working, however after installing the patch all worked fine,

"Microsoft Exchange Store"  and  "Microsoft Service Host" also stuck on "Stopping" although they were stuck on Starting until i did a kill of all exchange services and now they're stopping....so the 3 services are

"Microsoft Exchange Store"
"Microsoft Service Host"
"DNS Server"

use below command
1) sc queryex DNS
     you will get the PID
2) taskkill /F /PID:XXXX
this will kill the stopping process

What errors are you seeing in your Event Logs? Could be part of another issue.

Ok after a number of attempts I have fixed this
One. It was network connectivity. The port on the wall was faulty. One min it's connected the next it's showing up unplugged... After I changed port and restarted server including running sbs Internet connection wizard it worked. Icon in bottom corner was disabled do. It was a fluke I went back to network connections to check....as it was connected every other time... Thanks for replies....

Faulty Port - None of the above solved this as it was a hardware issue
