Exchange 2003 Message Tracking

I am receiving the error message below on all external emails leaving my Exchange server.  This has been an issue ever since I turned on message tracking in Exchange.  Looking around at various websites, this error can be caused by the receiver having a Cisco PIX firewall, but that doesn't explain why I get the same error for ALL external emails.  Could it be something with our firewall?  We're behind a Cisco ASA.

OS: Windows Server 2003
Exchange: 2003

The object '*************' in the message tracking logs can't be found in
the directory. The object may have been deleted. The tracking history may be
incorrect.

Found hints on other sites which led me to the solution - thought I'd post this here for posterity, since I hadn't seen precisely this problem/solution anywhere.
