We backup our Exchange data using Veritas backup exec and are wondering if rather than cataloging and restoring the database, is there a utility that would allow us to scan the entire .EDB for a key word?

There are several tools on the market that can Search Exchange EDBs that vary in the detail they can search and the actions they can then take.  Just do a Google search on "Search Exchange EDB" or "Search exchange offline store"  or "search edb exchange" other variations and you will find multiple solutions that will let you try out the search capabilities to ensure they meet your need before you buy one.

It didn't allow searching, but did allow us to get to the .EDB file without having to restore
