how do I setup a vpn remote network using cable service with 2 xp pro sp3 o.s. computers in separate locations

I have a client who has two different stores and he would like to be able access the computers in each store from both locations. He uses Compass Max 2005d2.5 and v 9.1c progress dry cleaning software.I have never done kind of networking so am very ignortant of the process need simle step by step instructions.

For a carefree setup you would need two VPN-capable Internet routers of the same brand. SOHO class is sufficient; there are many out there - so it is mostly a question of preference and availablity in local stores. Most of them have good VPN setup wizards leading you thru the creation process for a simple setup.
However, creating a VPN connection between two branches is nothing you can do in minutes, in particular if you do not have any network knowledge. I advice to pay somebody for setting all up, including to choose appropriate routers for that business. That person can show you how it works, and you can be certain that it works.
