defrag OSX WDE encrypted disk w/out decrypt/defrag/re-encrypt entire drive

Is there any safe way to optimize and defrag a mac which I am using PGP WDE.  I am running the latest OSX.  I know I can decrypt, defrag, and encrypt, but that will take days.  If that is the only way then I will do so, but I am hoping for a better way.  Drive Genius now says I have 30% defragmentation and the system is not as snappy as it used to.

I don't know a certain answer to your question. However, in my experience, a defrag is ALWAYS risky. Not that it's a bad idea, just risky. Anyway, I would advise you to absolutely back up the drive, still encrypted, to another clean drive to avoid a similar but opposite problem from the defrag. Then, if no one gives you a better option here, try it out!

Good luck!

thanks.  I think I will try to hold off to the next osx this summer and do it then.
