Encore CS5 Failed to initialize QuickTime

Title says it all - when opening Encore I get the message above. The program appears to work ok after I exit the error message.

I'd like to solve this as it does cause problems when trying to use Premiere to start a project in Encore (I get the error message and the process doesn't complete).

Hi force3!
Looks like you've been waiting a while for an answer. Sorry about that.

I am going to assume that you are on a PC and not a Mac. I first guess is that you might have several versions of Quick Time installed on your computer, or have a program that emulates Quicktime.

Try uninstalling Quicktime, then do a system search for Quiktime and remove it as well. Then do a clean install of Quicktime and see if this helps.

Thanks for your reply - I am on a PC (sorry about that), and I installed Encore before I installed Quicktime (as I had no need of that up til now). I got the error message then (before QT install), and figured all I had to do was install QT. Apparently that did not fix it.

I don't have any other versions of QT installed, but I will try your suggestions. I did have a program called Sound Soap installed - not sure if that would have any bearing on this.

Not familiar with Sound Soap, but if it works with video, it may be the culprit.

Also... according to Adobe, anything before Quick Time v7.6.2 will not work.

Sound Soap is a light audio editing app (actually for cleaning audio files), but it does work with video files, e.g. .mov. I may try un-installing it to see if that helps. My QT version is 7.6.9

Also, older versions of Premier Pro, and Sorenson Squeeze have been known to cause conflicts.

I do have an older version (7) of Premiere Elements, could that be an issue?

After uninstalling Sound Soap and a re-boot, the issue is fixed. Not sure if the un-install had any effect, or just re-booting did the trick.
