Hello,

I am migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and experiencing that some outbound emails to the internet (several international domains) are not received.
also some internal outlook users are receiving the message "mail delivery delay" also when sending email to external destinations.

what i did;

tried to enable logging on the default send connector "SmallBusiness smtp connector" but the option was not available,created a new send connector and tried to disable the default send connector
Then it gave the error;

--------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Exchange Error
--------------------------------------------------------
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'SmallBusiness SMTP connector'.

SmallBusiness SMTP connector
Failed
Error:
Property Enabled can't be set on this object because it requires the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. The object's current version is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).

Meanwhile i added an MX record for the new Exchange 2010 server in the doman.local AD integrated forward lookup zone
I also use tracert and telnet 25 to the external mailservers as further investigation

First thing is to delete the SBS SMTP Connector, it's not required, all mailflow will go through the Exchange 2010 server you just need to ensure you have configured a Send Connector under Organisation Configuration > Hub Transport.

Second thing to check is that you don't have a smarthost configured on your Default SMTP Virtual server and that the port is correct, as per my guide here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_3044-Exchange-Server-Mail-Flow.html

Please delete this record, it is not required, MX records are only used in the external DNS.

Demazter,

I have read your article "Exchange Server Mail flow" now.
All my mailboxes and public folders are moved to the new Exchange 2010 server,i believe that the Exchange 2010 server is relaying all the outboud emails to the internet via the senc connector without interaction from the Exchange 2003 server?
Is this correct?
So i can ignore the settings on the Exchange 2003
I am not using a smart host for relaying messages.

Ok, i am checking my smtp logs meanwhile
Do you have any information or suggestion on the option " Use the Extenal DNS lookup setting on the transport server"?
In which situation do you use this?

The only reason to use this is if you are experiencing names lookup problems, and for this to work you need to right click on the server under Server Configuration and set the External DNS servers.
