Hi all

I needs a solution to host a web storage and I can admin the users rights, like some users can not see the folder tree and files when they are inside the storage, for now we are using ftp, its not that safe. Im thinking more like a web interface with SSL and users can add files and remove files freely if they want.

Is there a solution to it? I know there is sharepoint but its not that easy to config.

Thx for your time

I think your questions answer is going to depend on the size of the files.  What are the size of files being uploaded into this solution?  If they are 50MB or less SharePoint is indeed the way to go.  SharePoint is built on a database back end.  It works quite well for files 50MB and under.  You can raise this limit safely to 100MB.  Any bigger and you would have to look at this as a possible solution with drawbacks.  Yes, SharePoint is not easy to configure (Correctly, you can use the install Stand Alone Server but that comes with sever drawbacks), but if you take the time or have someone help you install the enviornment correctly it could server you quite well.  This will allow you to be able to have individual security schemas for each site collection to allow different client/users to have their own environments that will not interfere with the others.  With the other power of out of box SharePoint functionality it certainly is a big win overall.

Hi dipileggi

thx for the answer!

I know about sharepoint that could help me with my issue, but is there any other products that are doing the same or easier?

I am in a similar thread as this one.  The two that came up were PHP based.

Alfresco was one.  http://www.alfresco.com/

Epiware was another. http://www.epiware.com/products_epiware.php

I am a SharePoint expert and dont know about these products, or ease of use.  Something you can look into.

That being said.  When you get into something being easy to set up, it usally means the level of difficulty for the end user increases.  Its the kunundrum of being in programming.  The complexity of programing for end user ease of use or programming for administrator ease of use.  Very hard to have both with out really complex programming.  That now translates to other programs.  When they are open source.  They could be good.  However, which way did they go and is the code truely secure and safe?
