Auto send email from application

I am searching for ideas on how best to accomplish a small programming task.

I have a script that runs at intervals and retrieves data from a backoffice db on an old AIX system and puts it onto an SQL 2008 server db. No problem here. New data only gets pushed to the SQL server if there is anything new to add.
Example...

Apple Price changes daily at 17:00...but could change at any time during the day if there is an intra-day price change.
Script machine polls AIX machine every 15 mins. If there is any new price for Apples that data is pushed to the SQL server.

I will write a WPF app that will pretty much run all the time...and poll the SQL server to see if the price of Apples has changed. If it has then I would like the app to email a group of individuals that this price has changed. The emailing the group is the item I am most interested in. I can do the code for all of this but it seems clunky and cumbersome. Is there some easier method someone can think of to accomplish this task.

Thanks in Advance!

You could use a trigger to detect the change and send the email direct from SQL server rather than write a WPF app.
