All my other media cartridges work fine.  However, when I insert my new 500gb media cartridge, the green light immediately changes to orange. If I attempt to format the media, it gives me error 4038: device is not ready.  Please help.

How old is this RD1000 unit - the first types did not come with 500GB cartridges. If your unit is old, maybe you need to update the firmware to support 500GB cartridges.

Other than that, the cartridge may be defective.

I ran the RD1000 Utility.  The device status is good and the born on date says "21022009".  The firmware says, "2037".  The error message is now "Cartridges Does Not Come Ready".

Probably the cartridge is damaged then.
