Transaction Logs and Backups

Hello,

I'm working with a new client where he has a SQL server running an accounting program. I configured Backup Exec to backup the database, but I get the following error when backups finish.

"Database BankData is configured to maintain transaction logs.  Transaction log backups are not being performed.  This will result in the log growing to fill all available disk space.  Regular log backups should be scheduled or the database should be changed to simple recovery mode."

Is this something I configure in Backup Exec or SQL Server?

You can configure transaction log backups in either BackupExec or SQL Server.  If it is not necessary to restore the database to a point in time between your desired full backups, then it would be simpler to switch the recovery model to "simple".  To switch the recovery model from SQL Server Management Studio, simply right click on the database and choose properties.  Then click on the Options page.  You will see the "Recovery model" is set to either Full or Bulk-logged.  Change it to Simple and ok your way out of the properties.

If you need to have the ability to restore to a specific point in time between the normal full backups, this may require a little bit more thought and discussion to get the exact requirements.
