Start menu items no longer working after running Easy Transfer

I transferred the settings of my existing Win7 Ultimate (64-bit) laptop to another machine running the same OS. The transfer appears to have worked, but the shortcuts on the start menu (specifically, the 'Favorites' menu) no longer work - clicking on an item simply displays the desktop.

Any suggestions welcome!

TIA, Ralf

are you using exactly the same username on the new laptop as on the old?  there may be some coded paths to the Favourites that break if the names are different.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the quick response.
I'm using exactly the same user name. Do you think re-creating the Favourites folder would help? (I'm using max. 10 entries there, so that wouldn't be an issue.)

Best regards,
Ralf

You can just  copy and paste the contents of the old folder to the new.  All the Favourites folder is is a collection of shortcuts to URLs.  This may workaround your issue, but not explain the root cause.

Can you click on other links/shortcuts properly?  If you click on the icon at the very start of the address bar, you can drag and drop this to your Desktop to make a shortcut.

Hi again, and thanks - I used the workaround suggested. The other icons/shortcuts work properly. Go figure...

Thanks again,
Ralf

glad it's fixed.  Sometimes part of the Transfer process can fail...
