So our company just moved from an ancient nec phone system to Cisco IP.  I was given a 7962 which has 6 hard buttons for lines.

Our Cisco admin tells me there is no way to program these to be speed dials, is that true ?  This seems like such a basic function that a phone from 1985 can do ?

That is false.  Your Cisco admin doesn't know what he is talking about!

Here is a pdf guide for that phone.  Look at the section titled understanding buttons and hardware.  It just has to be programmed right.  In fact, there is even an option on the system that allows users to log on to a GUI to make those types of settings.

Well what phone system do you have?  Callmanager (Communications Manager) or Callmanager Express?  The docs are different for the different phone systems.
