New frequent client "unknown error -50" on Outlook for Mac 2011

Running Microsoft Office Pro, with Outlook for Mac 2011 (v14.0.2) on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.6. Don't know what exchange server we have but I think it's up to date and don't think anything has changed (I'm asking the IT folks).
In the past 3-4 days I am now getting constant errors that do nothing but alert me that an "An unknown error has occurred in Outlook. –50" has occurred with the details: "Mail could not be sent. Account name: [our corporate] Exchange". This doesn't in any way seem to effect my ability to actually send mail and I have no email in the outbox.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
Outlook exchange server is 2007 v 08.02.0301.000
