Why are some ads not showing up in Selenium RC?

I am monitoring the ads on a website to see if if my company's website
shows up on the side banner, using Selenium RC. Although some of the
ads displayed are common between Selenium RC and a regular Firefox
browser, I notice that some ads show up on the regular FF browser
which don't seem to get displayed on the Selenium RC Firefox browser.
This includes my company's ad link.
My code is to keep refreshing the page until i see the ad, which
hasn't happened yet for the last hour.
Please let me know any ideas. Is the ad display algorithm completely random? I see some repetitions in both the Selenium RC FF browser and the regular FF browser, but cannot find the ad I am looking for in the RC browser.

Have you tried changing your test to check for one of the commonly seen ads? I'd unit test the test first and make sure it is correctly detecting *any* ads in the side banner. If you post the code you are using it may help.

Are you clearing out cookies between each test? Its hard to guess how the ads are rotating based on the given information but you could try closing and reopening the browser in each iteration.

Also when all else fails you can use getHtmlSource() and parse it manually.
