Not sure what the problem is. We have a wcf web application that seems to work fine in the IDE.

when we setup IIS 5.1 ( this is a n XP machine) and run it through IIS the initial db communication works . i.e. the first thing we do is log the user in and it returns the users ID. After that any sql call seems to return an empty recordset. no errors just an empty recordset?

We are using Linq to Entity Framework?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would recomend running SQL Server Profiler to see what's reall happening under the hood which should give you some clues.  Do you know how to do that?

Thanks for your comment.. we are setting this up now... as we are running SQLExpress on our deployment machine and SQL Server Profiler is not part of that version I'll have to put the full version of SQL server and then see what traces we get... good suggestion. Thank you I'll keep you posted.

I wanted to thank you for the response. Using the profile showed us where the disconnect was. The real issue was there was a code bug that was not pulling formation out of the web.config file correctly. But for some reason Studio IDE handles the error and allows for continues operation.

Thanks.
