Proxy Blocking a webpage

Right chaps, I thought I would pester my higher ups with this, but decided as I pay for EE, I would pester you guys instead ;)  ... That, and they're incredibly busy at the moment..

There is one computer on the network, it is on a proxy, and when trying to access a page on channel 4, it gets blocked. Normally that would be fine, but they are accessing channel4.com and its labelled as p0rn. My question is, how do I find out how to unblock a site on a proxy, or to see if channel4 is actually listed under being a blocked site?

I don't know too much about proxies, only what they do, I would be grateful for your patience!

Tom

Hi Tom, You would need to find out who is hosting your proxy... We use a proxy here for our Schools and if we need a page unblocked we have to phone the people who are hosting and looking after the proxy servers to unblock it for us. Are you a Business or School being looked after by another company for IT Support?

as above you need to find out who supports your proxy, ours is hosted between ourselves and BT. once you know you can ask them to investigate.

If the proxy is local, then you will need to look though the config and work out how it selectects "porn" sites.

We use squid and have some url key word blocks.  We then have an error page that will tell me what acl blocked the page.

It can be common for page to be blocked due to a key word, but be valid.  As such the proxy manager will need to tune the rules or add to a white list to fix.

If the proxy is local, I think you will need to talk to the techs.  as dan4132 said, if its outsource it will need to be reported to the proxy manager (assuming that the outsourced site has not given you IT staff a management interface to it, in which case your back to talking to them).

If you need a hand to make sence of the rules, post them so we can have a look.

Good luck.
