OSX server redundancy

Hi Experts,

I currently have 1 OSX server OD bound to AD 2008. I have finally got everything how I want it. AD accounts can log into imacs, which are secured by WGM preferences. Users can save to their AD home directories, and have sharepoints to Xserve.

Now, I am looking for a disaster recovery solution. I have been given the go ahead to purchase a snow leopard mini server to have to hand should the Xserve go down. Question, what would I achieve if I set up OD replication in my situation? if Xserve failed for whatever reason could the mini step over and allow things to continue as normal until the xserve is fixed.

My concerns are:
We have quite a lot of media and music data stored on the xserve. Ideally I would like this data replicated to the mini
I have quite a few preferences configured in WGM, can this data be replicated to the mini or at least saved?
The xserve runs blogs and wikis, and uses streaming media
TIA

OD replication will not back up the blogs, wikis, music, other media or the settings for the services you are running on the xserve. If you want that synchronized to the mini, you can script rsync or set up superduper to do that periodically. You would not want the services actually running on the mini, however, unless the xserve fails.

The OD replica, however, will transparently take over all OD functions if the master fails.
