Search Outlook mailbox

Running Outlook 2007/ Exchange 2007.

Sometimes, I'd like to search the entire mailbox for items I can't find.

I notice that I can either:

1. At the top right hand corner of my Outlook mailbox there  is a "search Inbox" bar. I can choose to "Search All Mail Items" from the drop down box there.

2. In my Outlook folders, there is a folder named Search Folders. But not sure how I can search the entire mailbox from there, it seems I can only search individual folders.

Any ideas?

Go into Outlook 2007 Options and Search. I recall there is an option there (a choice option) to search current folder or to search all folders. Select the latter and see if that helps.

I confess I am looking at Outlook 2010 just now, but I think that option is also there in Outlook 2007.

Great, thanks, so what does the Search Folders actually do then? Your suggestion works great.

Thinkpads_User is absolutely right, go to Tools -> Options, second item from the bottom is "Change the Settings for Indexing and search", click on "Search Options" there and then on the following dialog, right at the bottom select "All Folders" and "OK". You should see your Instant Search Box change to "Search All Mail Items" by default.

LOL, you beat me to it by a minute :-)

Search Folders let you set up specific searches, eg. unread mail, mail of particular categories, etc.

>>> so what does the Search Folders actually do then?  <- As noted above, so I won't just repeat it.

So I think you have what you need now. While I was away here, I checked my Outlook 2007 virtual machine, to ensure it was doing essentially the same thing as Outlook 2010. ... Thinkpads_User
