user-enabled call recording

we are currently using the mixmonitor application to record entire calls, when they are connected to queues.

however, i was wondering if there is a way to give the users the ability to decide that they want to start recording a call while they are on it ? what would be the procedure ? will it work with only certain type of phones ?

Hi NetworkAdmin !

You can do this; and you won't even need to use any special dialplan application !
First, open your features.conf configuration file, and make sure that you indicate the "automixmon"  feature.
For example:

[featuremap]
automixmon = *8


Then, on your extensions.conf dialplan, where you connect an incoming our outgoing call to your user with the Dial command, simply add the option "x" which will give your user the ability to press the keys just defined in the features.conf to trigger recording of the call. For example:

exten => s,1,Dial(SIP/1234,30,x)

This will work with any DTMF phone !
