Mail stuck in Outbox. How do I restart exchange 2010

I am running Outlook 2010 on my pc.  When I send an e-mail, the message stays in the Outbox.  The server is not reporting any problems.  I am able to surf the internet.

How do I restart Exchange 2010?  Or is there something else I should be doing?

does this happen to everyone? If so it's more  than likely because the server is out of disk space, see alanhardisty's guide here on how to resolve this quickly: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_4259-Exchange-2007-2010-Backpressure-Quick-Fix.html

I do see one error in the event log.
Error 1009, MSExchangeMailSubmission

The Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission service is currently unable to contact any Hub Transport servers in the local Active Directory site.  The servers may be too busy to accept new connections at this time.

This is happening to everyone.  The server has 60 GB of free space on drive C, and 300 GB of free space on drive D.

Simplify Active Directory Administration

Administration of Active Directory does not have to be hard.  Too often what should be a simple task is made more difficult than it needs to be.The solution?  Hyena from SystemTools Software.  With ease-of-use as well as powerful importing and bulk updating capabilities.

Glen KnightCommented:
Check the disk space on your Exchange Servers, if it's less than 2GB then this can be the cause.

Glen KnightCommented:
Do you only have one Exchange Server?

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
I only have one exchange server.

Glen KnightCommented:
OK, check all the services that start with Microsoft Exchange and are set to Automatic are actually started.

Might be worth just rebooting the server to see if that resolves it.

All MS Exchange services are running.

Glen KnightCommented:
give it a restart?

Glen KnightCommented:
have you restarted yet!?

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
Restart the entire server or just exchange?
0

Glen KnightCommented:
sounds like the transport agent has got it's knickers in a twist.  Give it a restart to see if that helps.

You haven't disabled IPv6 have you?
0

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
I have not disabled anything.  Where is the transport agent for me to restart?
0

Glen KnightCommented:
Just stop all services that start with Microsoft Exchange and then start all the ones that are set to automatic.
0

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
I am trying to stop all exchange services.  MS Exchange Transport could not be stopped.  Error 1053.  The service did not respond in a timely fashion.
0

Glen KnightCommented:
which is why I suggested a reboot.
0

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
I am rebooting the entire server.

WeThePeopleAuthor Commented:
This solves the immediate problem.  However, it does not solve what caused the problem in the first place.
