Hi,

I am trying to embed some code into an email to create a 'Newsletter'... However i can't for the life figure out what i am doing wrong. When ever i send the code in the email it just appears as code rather than being decoded at the other end.

I have written the code in Dreamweaver
The students and staff had a brilliant time at the X Factor this weekend. I was absolutely thrilled to see how much the students enjoyed the reward. There are also lots of exciting events happening on Friday for Red Nose Day– we'll keep you updated with news of that next week.

We have received the results from the January exams, and I am delighted to announce that we have made even further strides in raising our students' attainment and improving their life chances after school. 50% of Year 11s already have A*-C passes in English, and 45% in Maths. With 7 weeks until the first English exam in the summer, we are looking forward to excellent results to mark the first year of Waterhead Academy.

Kind regards, David Yates - Principal
Waterhead Academy has got the X Factor

As part of our radical new rewards scheme we took over 250 students to the X Factor Live show at the MEN Arena on Saturday, featuring the 9 top finalists from last year's X Factor TV show. 25-30 excited students from each year group received this special prize to reward their attendance, behaviour, attitude to work and participation in extra-curricular activities. The reward scheme has been introduced by Principal, David Yates, having succeeded spectacularly in improving standards and motivation at his former Heywood School in Rochdale, where A*-C passes including English and Maths soared from 39% to 71% in just two years. Year 11 student, Hope Walker, said of the trip, "It was good; we were all standing up, dancing and cheering." Adam Haisler agreed, "It was good because everyone was all together and we got to do something outside of school. I like to think that I work hard anyway without the rewards trips, but this is definitely an added bonus! I think it does give pupils more motivation to do well and work hard, so that you get more treats." Hope added, "The atmosphere around school seems more motivated, people are aiming to do better with their work."

 Community Connections

Our Moorside Campus Community Liaison Officer, Wendy Taylor, met with local older residents of Waterhead at Rosehill and Daisy Hill court last week. The meetings were held as part of the Academy's efforts to engage and consult with the community and they enabled residents to find out more about why the Academy has been set up, and look at images and a short film of the new building. The events were very well attended and allowed residents to ask questions and hold some very open discussions about any concerns they had regarding the Academy and the new building. One resident commented, "I have to say, I have been against the Academy, but I feel more positive now." Wendy will continue to strengthen our links with these residents and plans to organise volunteering work for Year 11 students at the sheltered housing courts. Many thanks to Zerg Raja, Neighbourhood Officer for First Choice Homes, who organised the meetings with Wendy. If you are involved with any local community groups and are interested in holding a similar event, please contact us on our office number or email address.

Students have decided to provide a loving home at the Academy for two adopted rabbits, Jessie and James, from Tameside Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue and the Academy has made a donation to the charity. A group of 30 students take a Pet Care class once a week as part of Personalised Learning, and they felt moved to adopt the rabbits following a talk from a representative of the rescue centre on the problems of abandoning rabbits. In support of our adoption, a local company, Lewbuild Fence Products, has very kindly donated a hutch and built a run for the rabbits for free. Vice Principal, Margaret Ryan commented, "I am very impressed with the mature attitude of the students who have chosen to support these animals. Our links with local organisations have enabled us to pool our resources and to benefit the community, whilst at the same time teaching our students about social responsibility and animal care." Their new home is in the Moorside Campus memorial garden. This garden was created at Counthill School as a tribute to the memory of staff and pupils who have died. The rabbits are one of a number of recent additions and renovations to this peaceful space for reflection, including a pond and reconditioned benches.

Cricket Connections

Every week as part of Personalised Learning a group of students get the amazing opportunity to train at the famous Old Trafford Cricket Grounds and meet with international cricket stars. The sessions are led by the coaches of the first team at Lancashire Cricket Club. Students follow the same kinds of routines and drills as the first team, including using the bowling machines and having net sessions, as well as analysing techniques in the classroom using videos. The students even get to watch the first team training when they first arrive at the grounds each week. PE teacher and former county cricket player, Miss Dean, said "This is great for our students- they get to meet some inspirational sports people and gain a real taste of what it is like to be a professional cricketer, which will hopefully encourage our students' aspirations for the future." The Academy has a strong relationship with Lancashire Cricket Club and they have supported our work in a number of ways. Kyle Hogg, a member of the county team, visited the Academy in February for Skills Week to help motivate
students to aim high. The event was a great success with over a hundred pupils coming down to meet him and get his autograph. The Academy and particularly the Sports and Leisure department would like to thank Lancashire Cricket Club for their extremely generous support and we hope this very positive relationship continues long into the future!

Save the HTML to a file. In the email, choose "Insert File" and look for your html file. Instead of clicking "Insert", click the down arrow next to it and choose "Insert as Text".

Be aware that any images that are referenced probably will not show up because email programs prevent that (by default). There is no way around this other than having the recipients add you to the safe list.

Check to see if Outlook is sending as plain text or HTML...

Secondly... Outllook has gone backwards with their latest version, which replaces the earlier rendering engine for HTML to a a new engine which at best, has limited support for the new CSS styles. So code your newsletters using as little CSS as possible... (such as simple inline styles)

Here is a great article and tutorial on how to create HTML Newsletters for Outlook.
