I set up a SQL Server Alias 'Appdev' in SQL Server Configuration Manager. And could connect the alias through "sqlcmd -Sappdev -Uusername -Ppassword" from the window server. But I couldn't connect from my PC (XP Windows). How to use SQL Server alias from client?
Thanks!

You can also set up alias in SQL Server configuration manager.
Here's great article about it:

After defining alias you are able to use it instead of server name or address while connecting in ssms.
