How to debug and understand Perl Scripts?

Though I have 10+ year exoerience in I am a beginner in Oerl UNIX etc, My exp is with ASP, ASP.NET, SQL Server Oracle etc.

So could you please help me in understading what is perldoc & perldebug and how can i do this, do i need to install it in my machine?

Unix systems often come with Perl already installed, but if yours does not, you can read perldoc perldebug here:

and you find a perl installation to download here:
http://www.perl.org/get.html

I am supporting an application when I run the perl script from UNIX using putty, Some of the tasks are not happening and I wanted to know where it is stopping, and want to print the query as well as some message there to understand where this break down happened, how can I do that please help.

if you start the script with
perl -d script
it will run under the debugger
