SharePoint list unique records

In my Sharepoint list I have a field called ID...   Is there a way to make sure that duplicated records with the same ID can not be added?

There should already be a field that is used internally by SharePoint called ID.  This field is unique, uneditable, and is never duplicated.  It is also usually hidden from the user.  If you click on a list item to view it, you will notice in the address bar it says something like, "..\DispForm.aspx?ID=2"

If you want to display it on your EditForm and DispForm, you need to either get SharePoint Designer 2007 to customize the form (easy), or create a content query webpart to load it into the page using JavaScript (hard).

Other than that, it is very hard to create a field that will prevent duplicate entries because you would have to manually query your list, and see if your new record's field matches an existing one (Hard/Complicated).
