Lenovo SL500 Dim screen

I am working on Lenovo SL500 Laptop. It has a dim screen.  Inverter has been replaced.  Still dim screen.
Did any one fix SL500.  I am planning to change the screen.  But I have a feeling something may be wrong with the motherboard itself.

is it the backlight or just dim these days most laptops have a built in sernsor to detect incomming light so the backlight can be reduced to conserve the battery so the sensor could be faulty
I would not change the screen just yet.

This will help you.

Usually when the CCFL bulbs are starting to fail the give of a pinkish glow to the screen.
Test your screen with my method above to see if it give off normal brightness.

If you test it with a know good inverter and it does give off good brightness then suspect the voltage from the mother board to the inverter has a problem.

what happens when you press FN+ Home or End keys, can you make it go really dim/dark, and back up again.  how old is the unit??

if Lenovo warranty has expired, you might be able to extend it using a service such as this, that I use for my ThinkPad laptops that are beyond their 3-4 year onsite warranty.

http://www.europlusdirect.com/ - i think they have a US office too.  £79 per year for my old units, saved me a fortune when boards/drives need repaired.  never had a screen fail yet though.

Thanks for your article.  It is fantastic.  Where did you get 9 Volts battery power cord?  Radioshack has to parts seperately but not together.  Bestbuy does not have one. Do you think Frys will have it? thanks
I took some old multimeter leads , and bought the 9v piece from radio shack and solder them together it is cheap and works well for this test.
