What is the best way to do this?

Was the backup file created through dump command?

Was done like so:

[root@server1 admin-public]# cd /etc/samba
[root@server1 samba]# cp -v smb.conf smb.bak
`smb.conf' -> `smb.bak'

Hi,

You can copy it back to,
As in,
cp /etc/samba/smb.conf.backup  /etc/samba/smb.conf

This will overwrite the existing file of smb.conf with the smb.conf.backup file.
