email server settings for office share point

We have installed office share point 2007 32 bit on 2003 server. I have 2 issues to be fixed one is AD integration and second email alerts.  I am using google apps for my company email. I want to integrate Active directory single sign on for sharepoint.My active directory domain is mycompany.local but my email domain is mycompany.com  How can I integrate gmail server for outgoing and incoming emails on share point. I have already installed smtp virtual server in IIS.

You can configure the SMTP virtual server to send out email to Google SMTP using a specific user and password which is authenticated by google and will forward the emails to other users from there

You can check with google apps support to get smtp config and create a new user for managing sharepoint environment

hi sabby447 thanks for your reply I have already configured SMTP virtual server to forward mails to smarthost smtp.google.com , using google apps user authentication and TLS conncetion but  not receiving any mail.

enable logging and check badmail folder to ensure there is no issues there

I gave up the idea using office share point server for task management and share excel files. Our software team is developing  a .net program for this purpose
