I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

try like this

 select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE','DEPT','SCOTT') from dual;

To add,

If you want to do this for the oracle version below 9i then you can export only the metadata and import the content to an indexfile inorder to extract the ddl.

exp user/pass@db  file=tt.dmp tables=testtbl rows=n

Then do an import using the indexfile parameter.

imp user/pass@db file=tt.dmp indexfile=test.sql tables=testtbl

Now open the test.sql file where you can find the ddl of the testtbl table.
You need to remove the REM in the start of each line inorder to use it.
