IF Statement

Hi,

Im looking to get together an IF statement to say the following

If a2=travseam then "John Smith", if a2 = terryKe then "Harry potter" etc etc

Col A
travseam
terryKe
TANCH
etc etc

in case of having the names in another column say col B you could vlookup. i think its better this way. of course an example excel would help.

Sounds like you need a lookup table with the lookup values in column 1 and the return values in column 2, then use:

=VLOOKUP(A2,lookup_table_range,2,false)

Hello Seamus,

If there are multiple possibilities then it's best to construct a lookup table, e.g. possible column A values in Y2:Y10 and the corresponding "names" in Z2:Z10 then in B2 you can use a simple VLOOKUP formula

=VLOOKUP(A2,Y$2:Z$10,2,0)
