Short answer: How to add/create a template in Joomla.
Hello guys - I'm adding a shop to a website. I have decided to use Joomla. I have used Joomla before (1.12), so this new version 1.6 is somewhat different.
Still, I need to implement a template so the shop will look like the website. I have the CSS file for the website, of course - but how can I make a template for Joomla.
I know there is a lot more to it, so I'm looking for a short easy answer. Something along the lines of;
"To be able to create a template, you need to ... "
Is there a basic guide, or can the CSS from the website be used. Of course I have not looked for tutorials, yet, but would like someone to point me in the right, easiest direction first. Any good tutorial links will be welcomed.
Thanks.

Hello Fear,
Thanks for the reply.
The template creator looks like a good idea - especially if the template can easily be ported over to the Joomla template manager?
With Artisteer, can I add bits of code/CSS (live navigation -- button - images into the template? All I want is to be able to make the shop resemble the website - so users can go from the "shop" page (which is hosted in a different directory) to the index page.
Thanks.

If you are using one of the shoppiing carts that integrate with Joomla like VirtueMart, HikaShop, JoomShopping, SimpleCaddy, RokQuickCart, redSHOP, Tienda, MailOrder, then it will use the same Joomla template.
If you shop is hand built you can place it in a wrapper (menu item> wrapper>enter Url of shop) and this will wrap Joomla around your shop page.
Artisteer will generate all the files needed for a template and you can modify the css etc. using a text editor or dreamweaver etc.

Ok, thanks.
I have a website built. the shop is going to be built using Joomla, and I'll be using Virtuemart for checkout purposes. The best route is then to create a template using that above mentioned software, important that into Joomla - then just link the Joomla shop on the website.
Thanks for your help.
BTW: do you know of any other software packages like Artisteer?

There are other template creators but there is a learning curve involved.
