Get notified when power goes off at remote location
I am running a small office of upto 10 computers with normal UPS for each system. Power cut is casual in my area I stay and I could not afford to inverters or generators. Some computers(linux & windows) will be running all time along with server in my office which are accessed directly or remotely. The systems are abruptly shut down automatically after having discharged the ups power during power cut and I am wondering if I could have some kind of software or something where by I get notified by SMS or mail when power goes off in my office so that I can shut them down remotely. Anybody has any idea, please?
Depends on your UPS. Some UPS can send alerts that they are experiencing power issues. Check into APC, even call their sales / support for more info..
Depending on the brand and model of UPS's you are using the manufacturer may have software that can be installed on your server or one of the desktops that will send out an alert. Usually they require a USB cable from the UPS to the PC/Server. APC has Powerchute Business Edition which will send an alert and shut down the PC/server automatically when the battery gets low. Powerchute does require a compatible APC UPS though.

Isn't there any third party software for installed which checks and notifies me?

All the devices are connect to the UPS even the ISP modem, so I'm wondering if there is anything unwanted device which connects directly to the wall socket. Sure there will not be!

Wow!. Nice device. But, as I'm an Indian converting the dollars to rupees, would become somewhere around 15 thousand which I can't. Ok its good and I may purchase this in the future. How about power sensor, will it notify during power off?. Thank you for bringing such device to my view.
Yes, it would notify when the power goes out.
Here is how it would work.
You have to purchase the power sensor in addition to the monitoring unit.
The power sensor attaches to the monitoring unit.
The other end of the power sensor is then plugged into an available outlet.
If the power fails in the outlet, the monitor then sends out whatever notifications you have programmed it for.
Note that you have to have some kind of communication to the outside of the server room that will be available when the power goes out. Having a server on UPS backup that can send smtp or other messages would work just fine - but remember that you would also need the internet connection hardware to be on a UPS.
I think these are a very worthwhile investment if you can get the funding. Being in Texas I can tell you the temperature monitor has saved us a couple of times when building air conditioning went out.
Best of luck to you.
