LN 8.5.1 Cannot stop automatically adding names to Address Book

I am using Lotus Notes 8.5.1 standard version.

Every address that arrives to in-box get added to my address book. I have looked in the Contact tab under Preferences and I DO NOT have the option to stop adding emails automatically to address book.

Help please.

I have been told to check out the names.nsf and enable "more" options. Firstly, when you say "open" the names.nsf, that simply opens my address book. Is this what you mean? Second, when its open I don't seek were I should click to enable more options? FF

Your address book is still using an older design.

You'll need to update the design of your address book...

1) Open your address book (Contacts).
2) Select [File] - [Application] - [Properties] from the main menu.
3) On the Design tab (4th tab), enter "StdR4PersonalAddressBook" in the [Inherit design from master template] - [Template name] field and ensure that the [Inherit design from master template] setting is checked.
4) Close the properties window.
5) Select [File] - [Application] - [Refresh Design...] from the main menu.  When prompted, select "Local" for the server and click OK.
6) Monitor the Notes status bar - it will tell you when it's complete.
7) Once the update completes, restart Notes and try changing the setting again.  See the image below.

Done. Went through the instructions. No errors. Restarted LN and still nothing. I have attached the screen shot of the properties window. Same options in the Contacts, Preferences.

OK, That's your problem.  The template version you are using is 7.03.  You need the pernames.ntf from 8.5x. I'm not sure whyyou don't have the latest template.

If your server is the same version as your client, you can make a local copy of the pernames.ntf straight from the server.  If not, then try reinstalling and maybe the template will get installed this time.  You can verify if the template is the one you need bychecking it's properties just like you did for your names.nsf file.

OK... So you have a couple things going here... let me catch up...

When you say the "if your server is the same version as your client" do you mean the Domino Server? I don't manage this locally. All done at headquarters. How can I check this?

Assuming it is the correct version? how would I 'make a local copy"?

Now you mention that if not "then try reinstalling"... reinstall LN?

Thanks,

FF

Yeah, it's strange that the new template did not install with the new client.

Here's a link to download the pernames.ntf 8.5.1 template that you need.

Extract the pernames.ntf file to your Lotus\Notes\Data directory, then perform the steps above once more.  This time you should see results.

Sorry, Yes Domino and yes LN.

In LN, press CTRL-O (to open a database)
Change the "Look in" to the server.
Change Filename to pernames.ntf and click Open

When that's open you can then check the template version File - Application - Properties
Click the design tab and see what version that is.  If it is what you want (ie 8.5x) then make a local copy by File - Application - New Copy and replace the pernames.ntf

I like Bill's answer but try to get the template through your company first.  You never know if anyone inserted code into a template gotten from outside your network.  It may be 100% safe, just speaking as an IT manager, I wouldn't want my coworkers to get code from outside the company.  Your IT dept will thank you.

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction.

Bill_Hanson - I have a question regarding the file - would it be possible for me to PM you? FF

On second thought, I agree with QuinF about the file source.   It looks legit, but you never know.

Thank you both. I hope you don't mind that I split the points. Both of you provided the right answer. I have sent a note to HQ requesting the pernames.ntf. We'll see what they send me. If it not the 8.5.1 version. I will point them in the direction of the on-line file and have them check it out. Thanks again. FF
