add new 2008 R2 server to existing domain with one 2003 and once existing 2008 server

Have an existing domain with one server 2003 and an existing 2008 server has AD active, (the 2003 server will going to be removed after adding the new 2008 R2 server). From the new 2008 server Ran the AD domain Services installation wizard (dcpromo.exe) "Server Manger" on the Active Directory Domain Services" page under "Roles" I see the notification: This Server is not yet running as a domain controller. when i try to add the new 2008 R2 server i get an error: To install a domain controller into this AD forest, you must first prepare the forest using "adprep /forestprep". The Adprep utility is available on the Windows Server 2008 installation media in the \sources\adprep folder.

What am I missing to add the new 2008 R2 server to the AD domain?

so i have to run the adprep on the existing 2008 server?
My mistake, i have 2 2003 servers one is a 64bit, the new 2008 R2 is the first 2008 server on the domain. I have tried to run adprep on either 2003 server but it does not look like anything happens?

Is there a reason you're not following the link I posted which explains exactly what you have to do?
Can I prepare an active domain?  Or will it cause downtime?
