Why can't I get BlackBerry simulator to run maps?

I am running the BlackBerry 9800 simulator with Eclipse (BlackBerry Java Plugin-in for Eclipse v1.3.0)

Brand new install, I run the simulator and try to launch "BlackBerry Maps", and I get the following error:

JVM Error 104
Uncaught: IOException

I can't get it to work whatsoever.  Also, FYI, the "EmbeddedMapDemo" sample program that BlackBerry provides works, though the map, when launched, is blank.

I do have it recognizing a network connection, and the browser works fine.  I am going to be writing an application that uses maps and so this is really disconcerting for it to fail right out of the box.....

Anyone know how to get around this??

Maybe you'd think that that is too obvious a suggestion,
but this question is too specific - you'll be lucky if someone here
would happen to know it. Perhaps, you'll have more chances to get to it, if you try
to contact RIM suppport, as painful as that could be. After all, I guess, they are the ones who wrote this
BlackBerry Eclipse plugin, and they are the ones who made Blackberry in the first place.
I know, these things can be very frustrating...
